U.S. Army Cavalry

Description From the first mounted units mustered during the Revolutionary War to the legendary “Rough Riders,” and beyond, the Army’s Cavalry has served as a front line force for freedom throughout the world for over 200 years. Renowned for its maneuverability, rapid striking power, and proficiency in close combat, the Army’s original Calvary was principally a horse-mounted force. When Armor was designated a permanent branch of the U.S. Army in 1950, Cavalry units became closely aligned with the mission and operation of this branch. Today, air and armored Cavalry units are a major component of America’s military arsenal, combining overwhelming firepower and unmatched precision to lead the assault against America’s enemies. This coin pays tribute to the proud heritage of the U.S. Army Cavalry and honors the courage and commitment of all those who serve this formidable force. The obverse features the crossed saber design of the Cavalry plaque. The reverse bears the official seal of the U.S. Army. Minted in brass alloy and finished in bronze, this coin contains rich enamel accents on both sides. Each coin measures 1.75 inches (44mm) in diameter. Official Licensed Product of the U.S. Army. By federal law, licensing fees paid to the U.S. Army for use of its trademarks provide support to the Army Trademark Licensing Program, and net licensing revenue is devoted to U.S. Army Morale, Welfare, and Recreation programs.
